"See what happens": Alejandro Garnacho breaks silence after Ruben Amorim axe in Europa League final

0 4

Alejandro Garnacho aimed a thinly-veiled dig at manager Ruben Amorim following Manchester United’s 1-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final on Wednesday.

The Red Devils missed out on silverware after an underwhelming performance at San Mames. Amorim made some surprise picks for the game, which eventually backfired.

Mason Mount and Luke Shaw were surprise starters in our view. The former was picked ahead of Garnacho, who had been a regular in the XI for most of the season.

After the final, Amorim was asked why Mount was chosen ahead of Garnacho. He made a bizarre comment about Garnacho missing a big chance in the semi-final against Athletic Bilbao.

The Portuguese said (via Fabrizio Romano): “It’s easy to say that now. Who missed the big opportunity in the first half in the semi-final? Garnacho. Football is like that.”

Meanwhile, Garnacho was unimpressed with the manager’s decision and aimed a dig after playing just 20 minutes. He also indirectly hinted at the possibility of a summer departure.

He said (via Daily Mail): “I played every round to help the team reach the final, and today I only got 20 minutes. I don’t know. I will try to enjoy the summer and then see what happens.”

United tried to actively sell Garnacho during the last transfer window. Napoli and Chelsea were interested in signing him, but neither could find an agreement with the Red Devils.

Reputed journalist David Ornstein has acknowledged that it is highly possible that Garnacho could be sold in the summer. The club can secure pure profit for financial purposes.

The Argentina international was far from pleased with Amorim’s choice last night. We won’t be surprised if he pushes for a new challenge when the transfer window reopens.

Serie A giants Napoli could make a renewed approach for the 20-year-old. As per Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol, Chelsea are still monitoring the Red Devils graduate.

United have missed out on revenue of at least £85 million after failing to qualify for the Champions League. The club must recoup funds from player sales for a bigger summer spending spree.
