Red Sox’s Alex Cora Had Breakfast With Mets Star After Ejection
Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora isn’t holding any ill will toward New York Mets superstar Francisco Lindor.
Boston and New York saw the two get into it during Tuesday’s matchup at Fenway Park, as the manager was ejected early from an eventual victory for coming to the defense of (also ejected) starting pitcher Walker Buehler. Lindor escalated the situation from second base, where he loudly encouraged the ejections after stealing the bag and kickstarting an argument over balls and strikes.
Cora and Lindor didn’t carry over the beef, though, talking about it over breakfast.
“We had breakfast this morning,” Cora said during his appearance on “WEEI Afternoons” on Wednesday. “I saw the clip of him saying… ‘Throw Alex out! Throw Alex out!’ Francisco didn’t tell me that this morning, but it’s all fun and games. It’s a game that you’re allowed to show emotion. I have to protect my players, and in that instance, it was hard to swallow, but (the bullpen) did the job. We won the game.”
Cora and Lindor have a relationship outside their current gigs, having met when the latter was a child in Puerto Rico. It’ll take more than one on-field incident to separate the two.
