NFL Rumors: Eagles Owner Made NSFW Remark Amid ‘Tush Push’ Debate
If the Eagles were going to go down, owner Jeffrey Lurie ensured they’d go down swinging.
Lurie reportedly made an “impassioned speech” in defense of the so-called “tush push” when he spoke to NFL owners at the Spring League Meeting in Minneapolis on Wednesday. The speech lasted close to an hour and featured NSFW language and a colorful analogy, according to ESPN’s Seth Wickersham.
“Toward the end of a speech that lasted close to an hour, Lurie made an off-the-cuff analogy,” Wickersham wrote. “He told the room that regardless of whether the play was banned, it was a ‘win-win’ for the Eagles, adding that it was ‘like a wet dream for a teenage boy’ to create a play that was so successful that the only way for it to be stopped was for it to be banned.
“Lurie spoke for several more minutes, adding that whoever voted to ban the play would be taking liability for putting quarterbacks at risk. He criticized NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and executive vice president of football operations Troy Vincent for advocating the ban, adding that he had spoken to NFL chief medical officer Allen Sills at length about the play.”
Vincent reportedly took issue with Lurie’s analogy and called him out after it was used in front of a group of women.
In the end, the Packers’ proposal to ban the tush push came up two votes shy of the 24 votes needed and thus the Eagles maintain the right to push Jalen Hurts’ tush. Lurie’s colorful sentiments might have played a role in such a vote.
