A legendary former Barcelona player offers to reunite with Messi at Inter Miami
Could another Barcelona legend join Inter Miami? There’s no official offer on the table yet, nor any reported interest from David Beckham or Jorge Mas. However, Pedro Rodríguez, the former Barcelona winger under Pep Guardiola, has openly expressed his desire to reunite with Lionel Messi in Florida. This might just be the beginning of a new transfer saga…
“It would be fun to play with Leo Messi again at Inter Miami, but the U.S. feels far away,” said Pedro, clearly excited about the idea of sharing the locker room once more with La Pulga, Luis Suárez, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba—yet also slightly discouraged by the distance from his home country.
Even though Pedro never received the same spotlight as global icons like Andrés Iniesta, Carles Puyol, or Xavi Hernández, his offensive contributions were crucial wherever he played.
“I don’t have the kind of profile some of the others do. I was always away from the spotlight. That’s my personality: discreet, calm, quiet… I prefer to just be myself.”
The 37-year-old forward will become a free agent on June 30, when his contract with Lazio expires. That means only a contract agreement would be needed to bring him on board—he’s a realistic market option. Time will tell if Inter Miami sees value in that.
Pedro’s glorious run at Barcelona
During his prime under Guardiola, Pedro achieved a feat even Messi didn’t: scoring in six different competitions in one season (2009)—La Liga, Champions League, Copa del Rey, UEFA Super Cup, Spanish Super Cup, and Club World Cup. He also played a key role in the 2010/11 Champions League, scoring the opening goal in the final against Manchester United, helping Barcelona win their fourth European Cup.
A World Cup winner with Spain in 2010 and Euro champion in 2012, Pedro became one of Pep’s favorites during that historic Barcelona era. His numbers speak for themselves:
20 titles (including 5 La Liga, 3 Copa del Rey, 4 Spanish Super Cups, 3 Champions Leagues, 3 UEFA Super Cups, and 2 Club World Cups), 321 matches, 99 goals, 61 assists over nine seasons.
