Under-The-Radar Red Sox Prospect Earns Promotion To Double-A Portland

There are plenty of Red Sox prospects across Boston’s farm system that draw plenty of attention.

Zach Ehrhard isn’t one of them, but that could change very soon.

Ehrhard, who the Red Sox drafted in the fourth round last year out of Oklahoma State, got off to a fantastic start with High-A Greenville this season and was rewarded Tuesday with a promotion to Double-A Portland.

The 22-year-old outfielder slashed an impressive .342/.471/.459 with 10 doubles, one home run, 22 RBIs, 26 walks and seven stolen bases in 31 games.

“I’m definitely a more contact, bat-to-ball oriented guy,” Ehrhard recently told MassLive’s Christopher Smith. “And with the Red Sox, they’re trying to help me kinda step into more of the power that I have — that I know I have.”

The progress from Ehrhard stands out due to his struggles with Greenville last season after making the jump from college to minor league baseball. Ehrhard batted just .156 in 22 games with Greenville.

The promotion for Ehrhard is made even more special as he will join his brother, Drew, in Portland. The Red Sox signed Drew Ehrhard as an undrafted free agent from Division II University of Tampa in July 2023.

Zach Ehrhard, who hit .331 with 15 home runs and 57 RBIs in his final collegiate season at Oklahoma State, isn’t listed on the top-30 prospect lists for MLB Pipeline or SoxProspects.com. But if Ehrhard keeps producing at the plate, he’ll be on everyone’s radar soon enough.
