Ange Postecoglou reveals what happened with Dejan Kulusevski shock surgery at Tottenham

0 5

Ange Postecoglou has now confirmed that Dejan Kulusevski will miss Tottenham’s Europa League final following surgery to his patella.

In six days’ time, Tottenham Hotspur will take to the field in Spain at the San Mames Stadium in Athletic Bilbao.

The Lilywhites go into the clash against Manchester United in the Europa League final with a fair bit of confidence, knowing that they have already beaten the Red Devils three times this season.

But Ange Postecoglou will have to find a way to secure a win in Spain on 21 May without a few of his key creative midfielders, with James Maddison, Lucas Bergvall, and now Dejan Kulusevski all set to miss the final.

Dejan Kulusevski’s injury remains the most recent of the three, after the Swede picked up a knock to his knee during Tottenham’s clash with Crystal Palace.

Although Postecoglou initially claimed Kulusevski would be fine, it has since been revealed that he will miss the final after undergoing surgery on his patella.

Tottenham wrote in their announcement: ‘We can confirm that Dejan Kulusevski suffered an injury to his right patella in our Premier League fixture against Crystal Palace last weekend. Following further specialist consultation, the midfielder has undergone surgery today and will commence his rehabilitation.’

Ange Postecoglou provides Dejan Kulusevski injury update at Tottenham

With the Swede now working on his recovery, Ange Postecoglou has addressed the media ahead of Tottenham’s clash with Aston Villa to provide more clarity on Dejan Kulusevski’s condition.

He told football.london: “Obviously disappointing news. Initially we thought it wasn’t too serious but it blew up the day after. He’s had the surgery which will put him out for at least a few months.

“We’ll see [if he’ll be back for the start of next season]. We’ve only got basic information at the moment.”

Spurs facing creative dilemma without Dejan Kulusevski for Europa League final

Tottenham Hotspur must now find a creative solution to their midfield crisis ahead of Wednesday’s final clash.

Heung-min Son, who only just returned from a foot injury, is now fit and back in contention and could be an option in the number ten role.

Postecoglou could also opt to play Richarlison and Dominic Solanke as a strike duo, which would present another solution to his number ten problem.

It remains to be seen exactly how the manager will choose to set up his side come Wednesday, but one thing is certain – Spurs cannot afford to pick up any more injuries before that crucial final.
