Man Utd poised to be without six players vs Chelsea after Leny Yoro misses training
Manchester United are poised to be without six players for the Premier League clash against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Friday evening.
The Red Devils are presently 16th in the table with 39 points, and their entire focus is on the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur on May 21.
Hence, manager Ruben Amorim could play a slightly weakened line-up against the Blues on the road. The match is a dead rubber for the Mancunian giants.
Ahead of the game, the Portuguese tactician looks set to be without six first-team stars.
Lisandro Martinez and Joshua Zirkzee have already been ruled out for the campaign with knee and hamstring injuries respectively.
Diogo Dalot was spotted in individual training today after his calf injury. His priority should be on getting fit for the Europa League final.
Aside from the trio, Matthijs de Ligt, Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven were not spotted with the group in today’s open training session.
Yoro picked up a recurrence of his foot injury against the Hammers last weekend.
In his pre-match presser, Amorim said that none of the injured may travel for the Chelsea game, but ‘some of them‘ could make the final at San Mames.
United have nothing other than pride to play for in the league. They are on course for their worst-ever Premier League season regardless of the outcome of the last two matches.
Still, momentum does play a big role ahead of a European final. Amorim could pick some key players on Friday with the aim of securing at least a draw, which would be a positive result.
Chelsea have won just one of the last 10 league meetings against United (six draws and three losses). The Blues need all three points on Friday to boost their Champions League prospects.
United can put a dent to their hopes by avoiding a defeat. It won’t be an easy task with a rotated side. Some players could be cautious with their work rate to stay unscathed before the Europa League final.
