Amorim contradicts Ratcliffe with bold gesture to boost team morale
Manchester United will travel to Bilbao for a season-defining UEFA Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur on 21 May.
According to ESPN, Ruben Amorim has paid for 30 of his United backroom staff to take their families to the final.
The club recently informed him that his coaches, physios and support team would have to pay for their own tickets.
The club made only two tickets for Bilbao available for staff to purchase, rather than funding a complimentary trip to the final.
The decision is part of a broader series of cost-cutting measures introduced by the club following Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s arrival as a co-owner.
A heartwarming gesture that contradicts Ratcliffe
In an ideal world, the club should cover the cost of tickets for the staff and their families.
In contrast to United, Tottenham will offer one free ticket to all of their 700 employees.
However, Ratcliffe has been ruthless in cutting even the expenses borne by the club.
United’s struggles on the pitch heavily reflect on their finances, with the club generating less revenue and recording losses.
INEOS have already laid off around 200 people and could axe more jobs in the future.
They have ended Sir Alex Ferguson’s ambassador contract and even increased tickets prices which forced the United supporters to launch protests.
Amorim’s act stands out in these turbulent times, offering a morale boost to the team behind the scenes.
From physiotherapists to analysts, the unsung heroes of any footballing success are often in the background.
Without their relentless support, the players cannot thrive on the pitch.
United have endured a tough 2024-25 season both on and off the pitch.
At such a delicate juncture, fostering unity and appreciation within the club could be key to rebuilding a winning culture.
With United sitting 16th in the Premier League, the European final is their last chance to save this season.
A win would not only bring silverware to Old Trafford but also secure Champions League football, offering both prestige and a much-needed financial boost.
