Amorim issues 'most dangerous thing' warning following lifeless defeat vs West Ham

0 2

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim heavily criticised his team after a dismal defeat to West Ham United in the Premier League on Sunday.

Goals on either side of half-time saw the Hammers leapfrog the Red Devils in the Premier League standings, leaving the hosts embarrassed once again at Old Trafford.

With just two games left, United now sit a staggering 16th in the table, on a meagre 39 points after 36 matches.

Amorim slammed the mindset of his players after the game.

He said to Sky Sports (via BBC Sport): “If you look at the goals that we suffer, we can avoid these goals. The lack of energy, of urgency.

“That is the most dangerous thing in this club. You can feel it at the beginning of the game.

“Between our box and opponent’s box there is a lack of urgency. That is something we have to change in this club.”

Players have lost interest in Premier League

The defeat marked United’s 17th in the league this season, but it was the passive manner of the performance that truly disappointed.

From the start, the players looked disconnected. They showed no desire to press, recover possession, or drive the game forward.

Even if they win their final two fixtures, the current points tally suggests the worst Premier League season in the club’s history.

The issue is no longer just about results. It is about the lack of professional pride and the absence of a fighting spirit.

United dismantled Athletic Bilbao with a 7-1 aggregate win to reach the UEFA Europa League final.

A victory over Tottenham Hotspur on 21 May would secure a major trophy and guarantee Champions League football next season.

Understandably, the players have shifted their focus to Europe, but giving up on the league is unacceptable for a club of this magnitude.

Amorim understands that a dramatic cultural shift is needed in the dressing room before the start of next season.

For a club with United’s tradition and ambition, simply scraping past the 40-point mark is a failure that cannot be repeated.
