Man United player ratings 0-2 West Ham: Three 4/10s let Ruben Amorim down, only two starters get 6/10s
Manchester United were defeated 0-2 by West Ham United at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Sunday.
United manager Ruben Amorim made a bold decision to field a stronger starting XI than many expected, despite their mid-week Europa League win.
The visitors took the lead through Tomas Soucek, who slotted home following a well-worked team goal. From that point, United lacked urgency and were consistently second-best in battles all over the pitch.
West Ham doubled their lead in the second half with a clinical finish from Jarrod Bowen around the hour mark.
Despite United’s attempts to find a way back into the game, they failed to convert their half-chances, leaving them frustrated in front of goal.
West Ham’s defence held firm under the pressure, securing a deserved victory at Old Trafford.
Player Ratings
Altay Bayindir – 5/10
Bayindir made no errors but remained unconvincing with his catching. He could not be blamed for either of West Ham’s goals, but his presence between the posts lacked authority.
Noussair Mazraoui – 5/10
The 27-year-old was dragged out of position too easily, leaving space for Kudus to exploit before the West Ham winger delivered the cross that led to Soucek’s goal.
Leny Yoro – 6/10
Handed his first start at the heart of United’s back three, the teenager looked composed and assured throughout the first half. His night was cut short by an unfortunate injury after the break.
Luke Shaw – 5/10
Shaw lacked his usual incisiveness in possession and struggled to influence the game with his passing.
Harry Amass – 4/10
A night to forget for the young wing-back, who frustrated the Old Trafford faithful by repeatedly failing to deliver crosses despite finding himself in acres of space.
Amad Diallo – 6/10
The Ivorian showed promise going forward and was United’s most dangerous outlet in attack, but lacked urgency tracking back during the build-up to West Ham’s opener. Substituted in the 82nd minute as a precaution by Amorim.
Manuel Ugarte – 4/10
The Uruguayan was caught napping in midfield, dispossessed effortlessly by Aaron Wan-Bissaka before assisting Bowen.
Bruno Fernandes – 5/10
The United captain failed to bail his team out this afternoon as West Ham expertly nullified his influence.
Kobbie Mainoo – 5/10
Mainoo floated in a teasing early cross from the right for Hojlund but offered little attacking threat for the remainder of the game.
Mason Mount – 5/10
Mount crafted a golden chance for Hojlund around the half-hour mark with a clever pass, but could not replicate the impact he had on Thursday.
Rasmus Hojlund – 4/10
The Denmark international should have drawn United level after being played through brilliantly by Mount but squandered the chance. He was handed another golden opportunity after the break, yet somehow failed to convert from just three yards out.
Substitutions
Harry Maguire – 6/10
The former United captain came close to pulling one back for his side with a powerful header from a corner but was unable to find the net.
Victor Lindelof – 5/10
He made an error that could have put United 3-0 down.
Alejandro Garnacho – 5/10
Failed to provide a spark after coming on at the hour mark.
Patrick Dorgu – 5/10
His arrival allowed Diallo to play higher on the right flank.
Christian Eriksen – NA
Too late to rate.
