Ange Postecoglou reveals prophetic message he told Yves Bissouma a month ago

0 5

Ange Postecoglou has shared what he had told Yves Bissouma when he was struggling to get into the Tottenham team a month ago and has revealed why he is extremely proud of the midfielder for the way he has stepped up in a crucial juncture for his side.

When Tottenham fans heard last week that Lucas Bergvall was out with an injury and saw Bissouma being given the nod to start the first leg against Bodo/Glimt, many would have had an uneasy feeling.

After all, the Swede has arguably been the club’s most in-form players over recent months while the former Brighton man had looked completely lacking in confidence.

In fact, some Spurs fans may have even thought they had already seen the last of the 28-year-old in a Tottenham shirt as Bissouma was being heavily linked with a summer transfer.

Ange Postecoglou is proud of Bissouma’s response

The Tottenham boss has now revealed that he spoke to Bissouma around a month ago and told the midfielder that he had a feeling that the team would need him at his best in the final few weeks of the season.

Postecoglou admitted that he is proud of the way the experienced star has stepped up in two crucial semifinal clashes for his side, insisting that he always knew the Malian is capable of doing special things.

When the Spurs head coach was asked about Bissouma saying Daniel Levy would join the players in singing on their flight back from Norway, the 59-year-old responded (via Football.London): “He is a different cat, Yves. Fair to say. I love him, though, because he has had his own issues this year. I spoke to him about a month ago. He was in and out of the team.

“I just had a feeling in my gut. I said: ‘Biss, we are going to need you at the crucial time. I don’t know when that is going to be, but we are going to need you, and if we get the best Biss we can do something special.’

“He has delivered. Through that time, he never put his head down and complained. He knew that he could be doing better, and he wanted to push on. So I’m really proud of him and the way he has handled everything this year.

“But yes, there was no belting of tunes. It’s fair to say me the chairman and probably have different playlists, mate. So don’t see him banging away to AC/DC.”

Can Yves Bissouma save his Tottenham career?

Regular readers of Spurs Web will be aware that several sources have said over recent months that Bissouma’s three-year stay at Spurs is expected to end this summer, especially given that the midfielder has just one year left on his contract.

However, the Mali international’s Tottenham career has now been handed a lifeline as he is now certain to start the Europa League final.

If Bissouma delivers an outstanding performance in what will be one of the biggest games in the club’s recent history and helps the Lilywhites get their hands on the trophy, there is every chance that he could remain at N17 for one more season.
