‘I am confident’ - Gary Neville now predicts who will win Europa League final between Man United & Spurs

0 0

Manchester United booked a place in the final of the Europa League following a comprehensive 4-1 victory over Athletic Bilbao in the second-leg of the semi-finals last night.

The Red Devils won 3-0 in Spain in the first-leg last week and will now face Tottenham Hotspur on May 21 as they look to end 2024-25 well after a largely underwhelming domestic campaign.

Spurs have defeated Man United in all their three meetings so far this season, but Gary Neville is confident his old team will get their hands on the trophy later this month.

“It is a huge game,” he told the BBC.

“The consequences are massive. I have a sickly feeling in my stomach about this game as a United fan purely because of what is at stake.

“But I am confident. Manchester United have an uncanny knack, even in difficult times and bad times – and this has been a really bad season – of picking up trophies.”

The Red Devils lost 3-0 to the North London club last September at Old Trafford after Bruno Fernandes was sent off in the 42nd minute, and they were dumped out of the Carabao Cup in December following a 4-3 defeat at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the quarter-final.

Man United lost 1-0 in their last meeting with Spurs in the Premier League in February, and head coach Ruben Amorim will be desperate for revenge when both teams meet in Spain.

The Red Devils are unbeaten in 14 appearances in the Europa League this term, drawing five times, while Tottenham have lost twice and drawn thrice.

They have a similar domestic form, with ten wins and 16 defeats in 35 games for Man United, while Spurs have won 11 games and lost 19 times, with only a point separating both sides in the Premier League table.

Winning the Europa League will generate around £100 million for Man United in additional income, and they will also qualify for the league phase of the Champions League next season, so they have a lot to play for and the players have the opportunity to put a smile on the faces of their long-suffering fans.
