Chelsea wanted him in January: 20+G/A Man United star insists he is 'happy' at Old Trafford

Manchester United will host Athletic Bilbao at Old Trafford in the UEFA Europa League semi-finals tomorrow.

The Red Devils take a commanding 3-0 lead into the second leg after a ruthless display in Spain last week.

Alejandro Garnacho joined manager Ruben Amorim in the press conference ahead of the clash. The 20-year-old was quizzed on his future but insisted he was ‘happy’ at United.

He said (via ManUtd.com): “Yeah, obviously as a footballer, you always going to hear some rumours about the future. But I have a contract here until 2028, so I’m happy here.”

The Europa League could be crucial for Garnacho’s future

The Argentina international has come under serious criticism this campaign.

His finishing definitely needs to be a lot sharper, and he must improve his decision-making in the final third.

However, it has gone under the radar that he has bagged 11 goals and 10 assists across all competitions this term. This is a respectable return for a player his age.

Amorim’s arrival has brought a huge change for the United academy star.

Traditionally a wide threat, he is now being asked to operate more centrally in Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system.

Signs of resurgence were evident in the recent clash against Brentford, where Garnacho was a constant menace.

He burst behind the backline with a perfectly timed run, setting up Mason Mount with a precise low cross.

He later found the top right corner in his trademark style by cutting in from the left flank.

There was heavy speculation over his potential exit in January with Chelsea and Napoli as his possible destinations.

His potential sale would give United financial breathing room, as any transfer fee would count as pure profit on the books.

However, a strong finish to the campaign could make him untouchable, even at a slightly inflated price.
