How Ex-Red Sox Star Pitcher Turned Corner Vs. Boston

The Boston Red Sox have faced a tough task on the mound against them twice this season with an old friend on the mound.

Nathan Eovaldi took a no-decision on Opening Day against the Red Sox when he struck out nine hitters in six innings before Boston’s comeback win. He came to Fenway Park Tuesday night and kept dealing with six more strikeouts in the Texas Rangers’ 6-1 victory.

In two starts against the Red Sox this season for Eovaldi, that’s 16 strikeouts in twelve innings with just three earned runs allowed for the veteran right-handers. He’s been totally locked in this season for Texas with a 2.03 ERA. That wasn’t always the case however, specifically against his former team.

Eovaldi holds a 4.68 ERA in his career against the Red Sox and specifically a 4.94 ERA against Boston since joining Texas before the 2023 championship season. His two outings in 2025 are far and away his best starts against his old squad, which looks to break free from recent offensive struggles, specifically in the late innings.

The Red Sox host the Rangers for two more games before hitting the road for visits in the American League Central with the Detroit Tigers and the Kansas City Royals.
