Lafayette High names new football head coach
LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) -- Today LPSS and Lafayette High School announced the hiring of a new head football coach with deep roots in the Lafayette community and a proven record of leadership and player development.
Stephen Hearen is a 2003 graduate of Lafayette High School, and he now returns to his alma mater as the new head coach for the Mighty Lions.
LPSS says Hearen brings nearly two decades of coaching experience to the role, including three years as head coach for Ascension Episcopal School.
After graduating from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 2008, Hearen began building his coaching resume with assistant roles at Breaux Bridge High School, De La Salle High School and Lafayette High before a successful tenure at Ascension Episcopal.
“We are excited to welcome Coach Hearen back home to Lafayette High,” said Superintendent Francis Touchet, Jr. “His experience, leadership and connection to the school make him the ideal person to lead our football program forward.”
Hearen hopes to turn the Mighty Lions' football program around, as they have not had a winning season since 2020.
