'Wants to play more minutes': Amorim praises 7/10 Man Utd star who earned his first 2025 start vs Brentford

0 3

Manchester United suffered a chaotic 4-3 defeat to Brentford in a pulsating seven-goal spectacle at the Gtech Community Stadium on Sunday.

Mason Mount gave United a dream start, finishing off a slick move orchestrated by Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho.

The Red Devils could not build on their early momentum, allowing Brentford to claw back and take a 2-1 lead into the break.

The second half delivered more drama, with both sides striking twice, but it was United who once again found themselves on the wrong end of the result.

Manager Ruben Amorim was impressed by the display of Mason Mount, who started for the first time in 2025.

He said after the game (via Beanyman Sports): “It’s not just the finish [for the goal], it’s the position he has on the pitch. He’s like a third midfielder that can reach the box. He’s really intelligent, he’s getting there.

“He trains really hard. Sometimes I have to push him back and to take him out of the pitch because he wants to do so much more. We are taking care of him, he wants to play more minutes and I’m really happy with him.”

A lively afternoon for Mason Mount

The 26-year-old has yet to meet expectations since joining United in the summer of 2023.

Amorim has repeatedly spoken of his admiration for the midfielder’s relentless work ethic and his ideal fit in the 3-4-3 system.

The former Chelsea ace last started in December 2024 against Manchester City but was taken off with an injury in the 14th minute.

He returned to match action last month, and Amorim has been easing him back with carefully managed cameos off the bench.

Mount made a perfect run to meet Garnacho’s low-driven cross. His superb first-time finish showed a glimpse of why he was so highly rated at Chelsea.

He took another shot at Mark Flekken and could have netted again before his exit.

The England international also registered three key passes in the final third, including a superb cross from the right that nearly led to a Garnacho goal just before half-time. He earned 7/10 ratings in our post-match analysis.

This was only his second goal for United in 41 appearances across two seasons.

There is no doubt that Mount is a quality player, especially in Amorim’s preferred set-up.

However, if he truly wants to fulfil his potential at Old Trafford, staying fit next season will be vital. The greatest trait any player can offer is simply being available.
