Case For Red Sox Calling Up These Prospects Immediately

The Boston Red Sox need a jolt after an 18-18 start to the season.

The last week of inconsistency revealed two concerning struggles with shortcomings from high-leverage relievers as well as the offense’s inability to finish games strong. Both of those groups have shown flashes of excellence, but not in consistent enough fashion.

Hence the .500 record.

The trade deadline will be another interesting checkpoint for the Red Sox. For now, there’s meaningful promotions to make internally to provide a meaningful boost in May for Boston. The front office just needs the conviction.

For reminder purposes, here’s two prospects who can immediately ease the concerning struggles the Red Sox showed in the last week.

OF Roman Anthony
2025 Stats: .305/.419/.514, 5 HR, 17 RBI, 3 SB, .933 OPS, 22 BB, 26 K
Everyone wants Anthony and for good reason.

He has nothing left to prove against Triple-A pitching and the Red Sox cannot just wait for an injury at the MLB level to finally move the needle for a big-league call-up for the sport’s top prospect.

His offensive impact is undeniable. He hits the ball as hard as any player in baseball and he’s ready to do damage at the MLB level. Whatever outfield opportunity needs to be created, Anthony is worth forcing the move for — his production this season speaks to that.

The Red Sox instantly become an even more dangerous team with Anthony in the lineup.

RHP Luis Guerrero
2025 Stats: 0-1, 5.23 ERA, 8 appearances, 1 SV, 10 1/3 IP, 5 BB, 7 K

His numbers don’t jump off the page, but Guerrero has the stuff to become a leverage arm in the majors. The group of Garrett Whitlock, Aroldis Chapman, Justin Slaten and Liam Hendriks is solid — but as previously discussed, there’s been letdowns lately.

It’s a small sample size, but Guerrero has started his MLB career with 14 consecutive scoreless innings in his previous call-ups to Boston. There’s an argument to try him in some leverage spots until Whitlock and Slaten are back to their usual execution for the Red Sox.

Guerrero pitched four scoreless innings (three appearances) with three strikeouts and only one run allowed for the Red Sox already this season, but was sent down Saturday after Brennan Bernardino was reinstated from the bereavement list.
