Ange Postecoglou gives injury update on James Maddison and Dominic Solanke after Tottenham win

0 2

Ange Postecoglou has provided a much-needed update on the fitness of both James Maddison and Dominic Solanke, after the pair were forced off during Tottenham’s win over Bodo/Glimt.

Tottenham Hotspur would be breathing a huge sigh of relief, as they have done what was expected of them at home against Bodo/Glimt in the semi-final first leg of the Europa League.

A 3-1 win means that Spurs would be going to Norway in a commanding position, but they would know that a place in the finals is far from sealed.

Goals from Brennan Johnson, James Maddison and Dominic Solanke were more than enough for Ange Postecoglou’s men, as he watched his team step up to the challenge put in front of them on Thursday night.

Ange Postecoglou gives update on Tottenham stars James Maddison and Dominic Solanke

The Lilywhites had to secure their victory without a few of their key stars, as Heung-min Son missed out on the first-leg clash against Glimt because of a foot injury, while Lucas Bergvall was also absent due to an ankle injury picked up in training.

Tottenham now look like they could have been handed a further blow on the injury front, as two of their goal scorers, James Maddison and Dominic Solanke, had to come off against Glimt after picking up knocks.

Maddison was replaced by Dejan Kulusevski in the 65th minute, while Solanke came off for Wilson Odobert in the 75th minute, with both players moving uncomfortably.

The Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou has now provided an update on the two Spurs men after their knocks, stating that his substitutions were nothing but a precaution.

He told Football.london: “Richarlison wasn’t injured, it was tactical. He did a great job for us but we though the game would open up and so we got Mathys on. Dom and Madders, Madders felt a tweak in his knee.”

On whether it was anything serious, he continued: “But doesn’t sound like anything serious. Dom similar in his quad. Both didn’t feel anything too significant but it felt important to take them off.”

Spurs must overcome artificial surface to reach Europa League final

Tottenham would be going into the second leg with more confidence after their impressive display at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

However, Postecoglou’s men would need to guard against complacency, as Bodo/Glimt have a 100% record at home in the knockout stages.

Glimt’s home advantage comes from the fact that their pitch is artificial, a turf that Tottenham are not very used to.

Of course, Spurs have played on an artificial surface already this season against Tamworth in the FA Cup, and they struggled to get going during their clash.

Indeed, if the Lilywhites are to get to the finals of the Europa League, yet another assured display would be needed in the Aspmyra Stadion, a tie that would pose a different challenge entirely.
