James Maddison backs Ange Postecoglou 100% and reveals what Tottenham boss has told him
James Maddison becomes the latest Tottenham player to throw his support behind Ange Postecoglou despite a disappointing Spurs season.
Many Tottenham Hotspur fans, if offered the chance, would hit a reset button and start the Premier League season all over again.
Tottenham have struggled in the league, and while many of the early issues were down to injuries, the problems have persisted even with a fully fit squad.
Sixteenth in the table, a single point above seventeenth, nineteen defeats and just thirty-seven points from thirty-four matches would be enough reason for a manager at a mid-table club to lose his job, not to speak of a manager at a so-called “big six” club.
Yet, Ange Postecoglou remains in charge of Tottenham, and although Spurs are believed to be working behind the scenes on potential managerial replacements, the Australian manager continues to enjoy the backing of his players.

Earlier this week, Guglielmo Vicario came out and spoke glowingly of Postecoglou, highlighting how enjoyable it is to play in the manager’s system.
The Italian acknowledged that the 59-year-old does more than set the team up tactically, adding that he is a great human being. Now, another Tottenham player has stepped forward to back Ange Postecoglou.
James Maddison, speaking ahead of Tottenham’s semi-final Europa League tie, has stated that he is fully behind the manager, but admitted that performances in the league have not been good enough.
He told football.london: “We are behind the manager one hundred percent. I think he is a great man. He is the first person to tell you, I have heard it myself, that we have been poor in the league.
“We have been great in Europe but it has been unacceptable in the league. He is my manager, my gaffer and I respect him. We can still have a very successful season.”
Tottenham must beat Bodo/Glimt to save season
Of course, success is still very much attainable for Spurs this season. However, it is no easy task, as they have to overcome Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League semi-finals, before facing one of Manchester United or Athletic Bilbao.
Indeed, if Spurs make it to the final and come up against United, they would fancy their chances of going all the way, having already beaten the Red Devils three times this season.
But it becomes far more difficult if Bilbao are the opponents. The Spanish side has been playing at a very high level all campaign and currently sits fourth in the Spanish division.
To make things worse, the Europa League final is set to take place at Bilbao’s home ground and given their one hundred per cent home record in the competition this season, it would be a very difficult task for Spurs.
That is why we believe an all-English Europa League final would be the best outcome for Tottenham.
