Chelsea Set to Offload Wesley Fofana Amid Marseille Interest
Chelsea are preparing to move on from injury-plagued defender Wesley Fofana this summer, with Ligue 1 side Marseille showing renewed interest in the French centre-back.
According to transfer insider Santi Aouna, the Blues have made up their minds regarding Fofana’s future. Despite his clear potential, the 23-year-old’s time at Stamford Bridge has been overshadowed by a series of long-term injuries, and Chelsea are now willing to take a financial hit on their £70 million investment.
Fofana joined Chelsea in 2022 with high expectations and a promising start, but a serious knee injury limited him to just 15 appearances in his debut season. The situation worsened in 2023-24 as he missed the entire campaign. While he did return to action this season, recurring hamstring issues have restricted him to only 14 appearances.
Chelsea are planning a defensive overhaul, with Bournemouth’s Dean Huijsen among their top targets. Initially seen as a successor to Benoît Badiashile, Huijsen could also step into the void left by Fofana’s potential departure.
Marseille, who were interested last summer, are reportedly monitoring Fofana’s situation once again. With Chelsea open to offers, a fresh start in Ligue 1 could be on the cards for the former Leicester star — if he can finally put his injury woes behind him.
