‘I worry about…’ - Paul Scholes expresses concerns over who’s hearing Man Utd now want to sign

0 1

Former Manchester United star Paul Scholes has reacted to reports linking the Red Devils with Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha, expressing his concerns over a potential transfer move ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Brazilian attacker reportedly wants to join the Old Trafford club, with head coach Ruben Amorim a huge admirer of his versatility and style of play, and a deal for him is expected to be wrapped up in the coming weeks.

While Scholes believes Cunha’s quality cannot be doubted, the Red Devils legend will not be surprised to see him struggle to hit the ground running at the club given the overall underwhelming condition of the current squad.

“He looks like he’s got the attributes that Ruben Amorim wants,” Scholes told TNT Sports.

“He knows that physically, his team are just not strong or quick enough, so Matheus Cunha is obviously athletic, and he’s got quality with 15 league goals this season.

“I just worry for any signing coming to Manchester United at the minute. It just feels like it’s such a bad place to go. The quality of play right now is so poor.
And with Cunha, is he a centre-forward or is he a wide player? There’s no doubt that he has quality and of course, it would be nice to sign him, but I worry about where he fits in.

“You can sign the best three players in the world, and I think they’ll struggle coming into this team at the minute, but they’ve got to start somewhere.”

A squad overhaul is needed if Man United are to become a force to be reckoned with again, and they will need more than Cunha in the summer transfer window to have a better campaign next term.

A change in goal could also be required as Cameroon international star Andre Onana has not always covered himself in glory, while the midfield department could do with reinforcements too.

Cunha could struggle at Man United if those around him next season do not step up at both ends of the pitch like his Wolves teammates do, and the onus will be on Amorim to get the best out of the 25-year-old.

More signings are expected at the club ahead of next season, and fans will be hoping those landed are capable of helping to turn their fortunes on the pitch around going forward.
