AUSTIN (KXAN) — A Texas Longhorns football player was arrested Sunday by the Austin Police Department, records show.

According to an APD affidavit, Nick Brooks, 18, was charged with driving while intoxicated, a Class B misdemeanor. The affidavit said Brooks, whose legal name is Nicolai, was speeding in the 900 block of W. 6th St. just past 2 a.m. Sunday. The affidavit said Brooks was given a breath test at the scene with a 0.00 result, but an officer determined Brooks was "intoxicated due to the introduction of cannabis/CNS depressants" and was "unable to operate a vehicle safely."

His bond was set at $3,000, and he was released from custody, records show.

Brooks is a freshman offensive lineman and was part of the Longhorns' 2025 recruiting class.

Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian released this statement regarding Brooks' arrest:

We're aware of the situation with Nick Brooks, have talked with him and are gathering information. We will continue to monitor the legal process and address this situation within the team at the appropriate time.
