Celtics Star Jayson Tatum Sheds Light On New 3-Point Celebration
Jayson Tatum is trying to put a positive spin on his suboptimal situation.
Tatum currently is dealing with a wrist injury that he sustained in the Celtics-Magic first-round NBA playoff series opener. The issue forced the six-time All-Star to miss Game 2 of the best-of-seven set, but he bounced back with a combined 73 points in Games 3 and 4 at Kia Center.
The 27-year-old also showed off a new 3-point celebration upon returning to game action. Instead of blowing a kiss to the crowd, Tatum put his hands over his head and held onto his injured right wrist. But as the star forward revealed after Boston’s 107-98 win Sunday night, he wasn’t the mastermind behind the showmanship.
“Shout out to the rook, man. Baylor (Scheierman) came up with the celebration when I hit a three,” Tatum told reporters, per a video shared by CLNS. “I think people are taking notice. This is the new thing for now.”
Celtics fans will be hoping to see plenty of Tatum’s new celebration Tuesday night when the reigning NBA champions try to eliminate the Magic and advance to the Eastern Conference semifinals. Tipoff for Game 5 from TD Garden is set for 8:30 p.m. ET.
