Tottenham predicted to cause a stir at Anfield, but Ange Postecoglou won’t like it
Mark Lawrenson expects the clash between Tottenham and Liverpool at Anfield to be much closer than some other pundits expect, but Spurs fans will not be surprised by the result that he has predicted.
While Anfield has been a difficult place for Tottenham Hotspur to go at the best of times, they could not have the odds stacked against them any more than it is ahead of this Sunday’s fixture.
The Liverpool players will have their tails up as they only need one point to be crowned Premier League champions, and they will be desperate to lift the trophy in front of their supporters after being unable to do so during the COVID years.
Tottenham’s singular focus from now until the end of the season is the Europa League as Postecoglou looks to become the first Spurs manager to lift a trophy since 2008.
Mark Lawrenson predicts the result of Liverpool v Tottenham
It remains to be seen what sort of team Postecoglou names for the fixture, with the Australian expected to rest some key players for the semifinals against Bodo/Glimt next Thursday.
Lawrenson believes that the Lilywhites will give their opponents a scare on Sunday, but admitted that the away side could also concede several goals in quick succession.
When asked to predict the result of Sunday’s game, the pundit told Paddy Power: “This will be the day that Liverpool finally win the league. Spurs might cause a bit of a stir and take the lead but you’d back them to concede three goals in eight minutes against anyone, let alone this Liverpool team.”
Score prediction: Liverpool 3-1 Tottenham.
A great chance for Spurs fringe players to make a statement
While one would expect key players to be rested, several Spurs players have a point to prove and may relish the chance to showcase what they can do in a high-profile fixture.
The pressure is off the Tottenham players and the likes of Wilson Odobert, Richarlison, Mathys Tel, Yves Bissouma, Pape Sarr, and others are potentially fighting for their futures.
Several of these players also know that a good performance on Sunday may boost their chances of being in the starting eleven against Bodo/Glimt. In fact, we have already predicted our five Tottenham fringe players who are pushing for a Europa League semi-final start.
