Why Patriots Offense Can Finally Boast True Weapons With New Picks
How many years have the Patriots been shredded nationally for their skill position players?
How many years has New England struggled on offense with receivers who could not get open? How many years did the offense lack explosive playmakers? The list goes on.
That actually might finally change in 2025 with New England’s clear initiative to support Drake Maye and get him some legitimate weapons.
The Patriots went out and got a veteran wideout in Stefon Diggs, who knows what it takes to be a productive No. 1 receiver in this league. They added new tackles with Morgan Moses in free agency and Will Campbell with the No. 4 overall pick.
Friday night marked another win for Maye, offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and head coach Mike Vrabel. New England added talented running back TreVeyon Henderson and breakaway wide receiver Kyle Williams.
Both players have big-play speed and lit up the field in their college careers with Ohio State and Washington State, respectively. All the flaws of New England’s past misses won’t be found with these players in terms of explosiveness and big-play ability.
Here’s a look at what Maye currently has on the roster.
RBs:
Rhamondre Stevenson
TreVeyon Henderson
Antonio Gibson
WR:
Stefon Diggs
DeMario Douglas
Kendrick Bourne
Kayshon Boutte
Kyle Williams
Ja’Lynn Polk
Javon Baker
TE:
Hunter Henry
Austin Hooper
Now, obviously, these players need to pan out and show they can produce in the NFL’s atmosphere and meet the moment against professional competition. But on paper, there’s more playmaking ability than there’s been in New England in quite some time.
This marks the chance for the organization to wipe away the cringes that came from the draft disappointments of Aaron Dobson, N’Keal Harry, Tyquan Thornton and several others.
It starts with their franchise quarterback, but it feels like the Patriots actually have some dudes to challenge defenses with athleticism for years to come.
