Patriots Add Weapon For Drake Maye With Second-Round Pick
FOXBORO, Mass. — The New England Patriots drafted running back TreVeyon Henderson with the 38th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Henderson was viewed as one of the top running backs in the loaded class given his ability to play all three downs and excel in pass protection. Henderson was the fourth running back drafted, selected two picks after the Cleveland Browns tabbed his Ohio State teammate Quinshon Judkins.
Standing at 5-foot-10, 202 pounds, Henderson ran a 4.43 40-yard dash and ranked RB1 at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combing in athleticism score.
A five-star recruit and the nation’s best running back coming out of high school, Henderson committed to Ohio State and played four seasons for the Buckeyes. He compiled 4,600-plus yards from scrimmage in 47 career games — nearly 100 yards per contest — including 3,761 yards rushing on 6.4 yards per attempt.
“He has average size but above-average juice with good acceleration,” NFL draft analyst Lance Zierlein wrote. “He might be the best pass-protecting running back in this draft and is more than capable as a pass-catcher.”

Leading up to the draft, expert Todd McShay lauded Henderson for his ability in the passing game. Both McShay and Zierlein hinted Henderson has explosive traits similar to Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs.
The Patriots opted for Henderson over a true wide receiver like Luther Burden III, Jaylin Noel, among others. Burden was selected by the Chicago Bears one pick later at 39th overall while Jayden Higgins was selected 34th overall by the Houston Texans.
New England has two third-round picks (Nos. 69, 77) on Day 2.
