Two factors could affect whether Tottenham sign Mathys Tel this summer

0 2

Fabrizio Romano has revealed what his sources have told him about Mathys Tel’s chances of completing a permanent move to Tottenham Hotspur and has explained the factors that could dictate whether the Frenchman completes the switch or not.

Spurs have a £45m option to buy Tel permanently at the end of his loan spell at the club, but some doubts have been raised recently over whether the Lilywhites will take up that option.

German journalist Florian Plettenberg claimed last week that Tottenham have decided to renegotiate a discounted deal for Tel rather than activating the option to buy.

Meanwhile, sources indicate that Bayern Munich are keen for Spurs to take up the Tel option as they need the funds to push ahead with moves for their own summer transfer targets.

Will Tottenham sign Mathys Tel permanently?

Romano has explained that even though the Frenchman has not set the world alight since his move to North London, Spurs are happy with the attitude he has shown and see a lot of potential in him.

The journalist suggested that Ange Postecoglou’s future at the club and Tottenham’s quest to qualify for the Champions League via the Europa League could also affect their chances of landing the 19-year-old permanently.

Romano told GiveMeSport: “They (Tottenham) are very happy with Mathys Tel, in terms of attitude, in terms of qualities, in terms of potential. So let’s see if they will try to renegotiate terms with Bayern Munich at the end of the season.

“Let’s see also what the player wants to do because I think this is not only on Spurs, but it’s also on the player. The player has an important say on what he wants to do for his future.

“And obviously, for the player, it’s important to understand – is Postecoglou staying or not? Who could be the new coach? Was the project Champions League football or not? Also, Tottenham are in the semi-final of the Europa League, so there are several points to clarify.

“I think it’s going to take some time before all of them make a decision on this. But I can confirm to you that Tottenham are quite happy with the player, and are also convinced that he has huge potential, as they were when they decided to sign him.”

Premier League rivals ready to pounce on Tel if Spurs pass

Tottenham may have to be careful if they decide to enter the negotiating table for the man on loan from Bayern as other Premier League clubs are also thought to be keen on the forward.

In fact, it was claimed by one source two weeks ago that Chelsea are ready to pounce on Tel if Tottenham do not agree a permanent deal.

Meanwhile, some outlets have said that Man United are still on Tel’s trail after being beaten by Spurs to the player’s signature in January.
