Tottenham contact 53-year-old Bundesliga boss who once beat them 7-2
Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly reached out to an experienced Bundesliga manager to replace Ange Postecoglou at the helm this summer as the Lilywhites view his style of play as a good fit for the Premier League.
The writing seems to be on the wall for the Australian coach, with reports indicating that Ange Postecoglou is likely to be sacked even if he wins the Europa League.
So far, Spurs are thought to have looked mainly at Premier League bosses, with the outlets claiming that Andoni Iraola, Marco Silva and Thomas Frank are the leading contenders to replace Postecoglou.
However, it has now been claimed that the Tottenham hierarchy have made advances towards a former Bayern Munich head coach.
Tottenham are keeping an eye on Niko Kovac
This report comes from Bild, who say that Borussia Dortmund’s Niko Kovac has now emerged as a target for the North London club.
In fact, the report says that several Premier League clubs are eyeing the Croat but Spurs are the only ones named in the report.
It is explained that Kovac has dreams of managing in England and the Tottenham decision-makers are of the view that his ‘intense and aggressive playing philosophy’ will be a ‘good fit’ for the Premier League.
The outlet adds that while Spurs have reached out to the 53-year-old, they have not made an official approach yet.
Niko Kovac’s stance and details about his Borussia Dortmund contract
Bild say that Kovac’s current deal at the Westfalenstadion runs until 2026. While there is no mention of a release clause, it is revealed that Dortmund would have to pay €2.5m (£2.1m) to sack him.
It is explained that Dortmund currently have no plans to sack the head coach, who only arrived at the club in January, and they are ‘determined’ to continue with him at the helm.
Interestingly, the publication adds that despite having a dream of managing in the Premier League, as things stand, Kovac is ‘completely unbothered’ by Tottenham Hotspur’s interest.
