Tottenham warned that one key star thinks he is bigger than the club

0 1

Simon Jordan is not a fan of Cristian Romero’s latest public admission about his Tottenham future, and the pundit believes that the Argentine’s fate might have already been sealed.

Unless you have been living under a rock, you would have seen several reports over the last month claiming that Romero wants to swap Tottenham for Atletico Madrid after being approached by the Spanish side.

This was confirmed by the player himself earlier this week, with Romero admitting that he wants to “go to new places to keep growing” and confessing that he wants to experience football in La Liga.

The Argentine has two years left in his contract and his interview might not have necessarily gone down well at Hotspur Way, particularly given that the Lilywhites are preparing for a Europa League semifinal.

Simon Jordan believes Crisitan Romero will be sold this summer

Jordan is not a fan of the Argentine’s tendency to give public interviews, accusing the centre-back of thinking he is bigger than the club.

The former Crystal Palace owner believes that following Romero’s latest admission, the 26-year-old has no future at Tottenham beyond this summer.

Reacting to the Tottenham vice-captain’s comments, Jordan told talkSPORT: “Well, I think the die is cast for Romero anyway, I think there’s already an established position. He’s probably going to go at the end of the season.

“He’s a very good player but there are a couple of times I’ve seen him over the years as far as where he thinks he’s bigger than the club and some of his performances have exhibited that at times.

“He’s got more quality than the current framework has allowed it to manifest itself in the rest of the team. I don’t think it’s very helpful. I don’t think it was helpful a couple of years ago when he was a player that clearly felt that he didn’t belong in this position, belonged somewhere else, but you signed for Tottenham.

“Listen, context is everything. If people are asking him the question rather than him volunteering information. He can keep schtum or you can say, ‘My lifetime’s ambition at some point is to play in La Liga’. But I think it’s already been said we were talking about last week, Romero is likely to be going out the door and Tottenham will rebuild with the right culture.”

Tottenham will demand a big fee for Cristian Romero

Even though the centre-back has made his transfer desire clear and has just two years left on his contract, Spurs are not expected to allow him to leave on the cheap.

It was reported a couple of days ago that Tottenham are expected to demand at least £60m for Romero. Given what we know about Daniel Levy, he will likely not budge on that valuation.

If anything, the Argentine’s public statements would have only strengthened the Spurs chairman’s resolve to make a summer transfer difficult for the player.
