Dartford Grassroots Youth Football Lead Darren Corley’s round-up of the grassroots side of the club
A cup win for the Under-16s girls; cup finals on the way – and the club coming together to support all age groups
We are coming towards the end of the season now and much like the first-team, we still have a lot of sides with something exciting to play for.
First of all, the Under-16s girls brought back the Kent Cup a few weeks ago after beating Aylesford on penalties. The whole club send their congratulations in what was a massive achievement!
Our foundation team Under-10 Whites are due to play in a cup final on the 26th of April, we are really looking forward to that and they have done incredibly well.
DFC Under-9 Blacks and the Under-8 Whites are in the Selkent Vase final, also on the 26th of April.
The Under-13 girls are also playing for silverware as they look to lift the Tina Marshall trophy.
We are really pleased and impressed to see so many sides from our section in finals come the end of the season and we wish them the best of luck.
In other news, some of our JPL Under-13s girls have been in and around DFC Women’s first-team. They were invited to train with them and a girl called Scarlet trained and was able to warm-up with them. it was great to give them that experience.
We recently had a walk-on day in which a selection of our youth teams from Under-7 to Under-18s came to a first team match and walked on with the players. It was great to see our youth players mixed in with the first-team for both the Women’s and the Men’s sides.
We are all rooting for the sides in their bid for promotion and cup finals.
We also have our Kent Youth League trials coming up, so that will be great to look out for in the coming months, as well as our JPL girl trials coming up for our 13s and 14s.
Some of the Under-16 boys have been offered places with Ben in the Academy – we are really pleased to see some of our lads continue their journey with us at Dartford with the chance of maybe becoming a first-team player one day.
There’s some great teams and players in the youth section at present and it’s great to see there is a pathway for them and the club working together to get the best for everyone.
