Tottenham’s strongest possible XI to face Bodo/Glimt in Europa League semi-final

0 4

Tottenham could be just three games away from silverware, and if they are to get over the line in Europe, they will need to pick the right side to do it. Let’s have a look at Tottenham’s strongest possible XI for the Europa League semi-final against Bodo/Glimt.

It’s very clear now that Tottenham Hotspur are throwing everything into the Europa League this season, and that shouldn’t come as a surprise, given how poor their domestic form has been.

With 18 defeats in the Premier League, just two shy of their worst-ever tally in a single campaign, and a finish around 17th looking likely, this has been a miserable watch for Spurs fans.

But there’s still hope. Winning the Europa League wouldn’t just end a 17-year wait for a trophy, it would also bring Champions League football back to north London and could boost Tottenham’s spending power massively in the summer.

Tottenham’s strongest XI vs Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League semi-final

With a place in the semi-final secured, Tottenham are now just three wins away from glory. But to make it happen, they have to get past Bodo/Glimt – and that won’t be straightforward.

Spurs will need to keep their best players fit and ready, because the Norwegian side are no pushovers. Here is our strongest Tottenham XI for the Europa League semi-final vs Bodo/Glimt:

Goalkeeper: Guglielmo Vicario – Vicario has had a rough few weeks in the league, with a string of errors in the last two gameweeks, but he remains the most dependable option between the sticks, so he keeps his place.

Right-back: Pedro Porro – Porro has been ever-present this season. He’s stayed injury-free and offers huge tactical flexibility to Ange Postecoglou, with his ability to invert and underlap. He already has three goals and eight assists to his name this season.

Centre-back: Cristian Romero – Romero put in arguably his best display of the season for Tottenham in the quarter-final against Frankfurt. While consistency has been an issue, his pedigree as a World Cup winner and his experience in big matches means he starts.

Centre-back: Micky van de Ven – No one in the squad can match Van de Ven’s pace, and that recovery speed is crucial to how Tottenham press high. He’s absolutely vital and walks into this XI.

Left-back: Destiny Udogie – Udogie looked sharp in both legs of the quarter-final. He’s starting to look like the player that impressed so many in his debut season, and he gets the nod ahead of Djed Spence.

Pivot-midfielder: Lucas Bergvall – Yves Bissouma has been far too inconsistent, whereas Bergvall brings constant energy and intelligent running to midfield – something that’ll be crucial in a high-stakes European tie.

Centre-midfielder: Rodrigo Bentancur – Bentancur has been building momentum with solid displays here and there. We all know his quality, and right now there’s no other Tottenham midfielder who can replicate what he brings.

Centre-midfielder: James Maddison – A creative spark through the middle, capable of chipping in with both goals and assists. He’s continued to do that in recent weeks and could well be at the heart of it again if Tottenham are to progress.

Right-midfielder: Dejan Kulusevski – Johnson and Wilson Odobert have had their moments, but Kulusevski offers far more when he’s on it. His pressing, dribbling and passing ability, combined with his versatility, earns him a place in this XI.

Striker: Dominic Solanke – Solanke is in much better shape than Richarlison right now, and his relentless pressing and work rate are key to Tottenham’s defensive shape from the front. He leads the line.

Left-midfielder: Mathys Tel – Heung-min Son is still recovering from a foot injury and might not be back in time for the first leg. If he doesn’t make it, Tel is the best alternative. He’s direct, electric, and causes chaos – he starts.
