Daniel Levy wants to haggle price tag down from £100m to £45m for Tottenham target
Tottenham are confident they can snap up Southampton’s Tyler Dibling for a bargain fee this summer, one well below the £100m price tag the Saints have slapped on their prized asset.
Spurs’ pursuit of Tyler Dibling has been anything but straightforward, with the story taking several twists that even the most attentive fans might’ve struggled to track. But if you’ve been keeping up with Spurs Web’s coverage, you’ll know exactly where things stand.
We reported some time ago that Dibling had emerged as Tottenham’s top target ahead of the summer transfer window.
In fact, the move could’ve materialised back in January, when Tottenham lodged a £35m bid for Dibling, a proposal that was swiftly rejected by Southampton. At the time, the South Coast club were still battling to avoid the drop.
Now, with Southampton having suffered relegation, there’s a growing sense that they’ll struggle to hold onto the versatile forward, as Dibling’s on the radar of not just Spurs, but several clubs in Europe.
Tottenham believe Tyler Dibling deal can be done for around £45m
Manchester City, Manchester United, Newcastle and RB Leipzig are all monitoring Dibling, but Southampton have tried to scare suitors off by slapping a £100m valuation on Tyler Dibling.
Despite that, Tottenham feel a deal can be struck for significantly less. Reports from TeamTalk now suggest that the north London club are optimistic they can land Dibling for under half the asking price.
Their reasoning? Tottenham believe the situation mirrors that of James Maddison, who arrived for £40million following Leicester City’s relegation.
Spurs are confident a similar structure, potentially £45m with performance-based add-ons, could get this deal over the line.
Of course, Southampton are still hoping to convince the youngster to stay, with the club remaining hopeful that his loyalty might just be enough to fend off growing interest.
Newcastle and Manchester United unlikely to rival Spurs for Tyler Dibling
TeamTalk also offered insight into where some of Spurs‘ domestic rivals currently stand in the chase for Dibling. It is reported that Newcastle United remain interested but may not be pushing as hard as before.
And that’s largely down to Jacob Murphy’s form this season – with nine goals and 12 assists in 36 outings – Eddie Howe may feel he’s already got a dependable option on the right.
Over at Manchester United, while there’s interest in bolstering their English core, their priority in the upcoming window lies elsewhere.
The Red Devils are focused on signing a number nine, and there’s also talk of adding a number ten and a new goalkeeper. A right winger like Dibling isn’t high on their list.
