Tottenham eye Marcus Rashford transfer as Aston Villa loan nears end

0 0

Recent reports suggest that Tottenham could be ready to reignite their interest in Marcus Rashford this summer as doubts grow over his Aston Villa future.

During the winter window, Tottenham Hotspur were linked with a fair few wide players, and amongst them was Marcus Rashford, a player who’d fallen out of favour under new Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim.

However, the Lilywhites ended up missing out on Rashford and later settled on a deal for Mathys Tel. The young Frenchman arrived on loan from Bayern Munich, with an option to make the move permanent for £45 million.

Spurs are still considering whether to make Tel’s loan move permanent, with reports suggesting that Tottenham are keen on negotiating a fee below the agreed option.

Tottenham monitoring Marcus Rashford as Aston Villa decision looms

While Tel is still bedding in and trying to find his rhythm in a Tottenham shirt, Rashford, now on loan at Aston Villa, has hit the ground running.

With six goals and four assists in his first 17 appearances for Aston Villa, the winger looks to be enjoying his football again.

Aston Villa have an option to make his move permanent for £40 million this summer, but according to a report from FootballTransfers, Tottenham are now keeping a close eye on the situation.

According to the publication, having passed on a deal in January, Spurs could be ready to revisit their interest depending on how things unfold at Villa Park.

The report notes that Tottenham would consider making a move for Marcus Rashford if Villa decide against triggering the buy option.

Rashford’s upside comes with baggage Spurs must consider

Marcus Rashford has shown in his brief loan spell that, if given the platform, he can absolutely deliver.

The form he’s rediscovered at Villa has been promising and highlights just what he’s capable of when confidence is flowing.

That said, it’s not a straightforward decision. There are downsides to having a player like Rashford around – the media attention he draws isn’t always positive, and that can become a distraction.

At a club like Tottenham, already struggling to find rhythm on the pitch, that kind of scrutiny could prove more of a hindrance than a help.

Spurs still have a handful of options for the wide areas and remain active in the market. One name they’re keeping close tabs on is Tyler Dibling of Southampton, who Tottenham believe could be prised away for a cut-price fee.
