Ornstein dismisses Man United’s interest in 'world class' target, reveals club's first-choice
Striker Victor Osimhen has been linked with Manchester United in recent weeks, but he is not on their radar (h/t NBC Sports).
Previously described as ‘world-class’ by Jose Mourinho, the 26-year-old is set to leave Napoli permanently this summer. He would reportedly be available for £56 million.
Osimhen was touted as manager Ruben Amorim’s priority target for the striker position, and United were seemingly eyeing a £40m cut-price deal for him.
However, journalist David Ornstein has debunked the rumours, claiming that the former African Player of the Year is not on United’s radar.
Ipswich star is United’s top target
Ornstein says Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap is the club’s primary target and that United would look at other options if they missed out on him.
“In the striker position, it is Delap,” Ornstein said. “There is no guarantee that it will happen. I think Delap will decide on where he wants to go before the European U21 Championship on where he wants to go.
“If Man United were to look at others, I am sure it would not be Osimhen. Despite the reports that you are reading, he is not on Man United’s agenda.
“They will have other options because they might have to turn to them or stick with internal solutions such as Rasmus Hojlund.”
Ornstein also shed more light on United’s pursuit of Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha.
He says the Brazilian is United’s first-choice target for the number ten position and that ‘there is optimism that they can land him’.
United are also considering Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo and Southampton’s Tyler Dibling as alternatives to Cunha.
Ornstein says they have the finances in place to complete the deals they want to do and are not reliant on European football to secure prospective signings.
