Man Utd could sign midfielder & striker from Euro giants, contact made for £89m duo - opinion
Manchester United could recruit two Atalanta stars during the summer transfer window.
The Red Devils are planning for a busy summer, and there could be multiple additions to the squad.
A marquee striker and a defensive midfielder could be signed.
Tutto Atalanta now claim that United were monitoring Mateo Retegui and Ederson during Atalanta’s 1-0 Serie A win at AC Milan.
United have already made contact with the players’ entourages in recent weeks.
We believe the Red Devils could swoop for Retegui and Ederson this summer.
Retegui signed for the Bergamo outfit from Genoa last summer after a decent debut season with nine goals and three assists. The striker has taken his game to the next level this term.
The 25-year-old has netted 26 goals and provided six assists thus far. He has converted a stunning 27 percent of his shots into goals in Serie A. Retegui has also excelled with his anchor play.
He has a Transfermarkt value of £38 million, but Atalanta could demand much more to contemplate his sale. The recent scouting mission suggests United could be weighing up an approach.
Meanwhile, United’s interest in Ederson is nothing new. The Brazilian was a top target for the Red Devils last year, but they could not convince the Europa League holders to part ways with him.
The club ended up signing Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain but could return for Ederson. Christian Eriksen is poised to leave on a free transfer when his contract expires on June 30.
United could also cut their losses on Casemiro as he enters the last year of his contract.
Ederson would be a solid upgrade on his compatriot. The 25-year-old has a tireless work rate and has won almost five duels per league game alongside 5.1 recoveries and 1.5 tackles.
He has a passing accuracy of 88 percent in Serie A. Ederson can play in the number six and number eight roles and would be a quality competitor in the centre of the park for United.
Ederson could be prised away for £51m this summer. It remains to be seen whether the club will make formal offers for the pair, having established contact with their representatives.
