Man United join race for £60m-rated Ligue 1 star with 16G/A
Manchester United have entered the race to sign AS Monaco forward Maghnes Akliouche.
According to French news publication L’Equipe, the Red Devils will go head to head with their local rivals Manchester City in the race to sign the 23-year-old sensation.
Akliouche came up through Monaco’s academy before becoming a familiar face in the first team three years ago.
He recently signed a new contract to keep him at Stade Louis II until 2028, but he could leave the club as early as this summer.
Akliouche could have left Monaco last season. City and Paris Saint-Germain were keen to snap him up, but he chose to stick with Les Monegasques.
It turned out to be a superb decision, with the talented forward now growing into one of the best wingers in Europe.
Akliouche has been a consistent performer for Monaco this season, returning six goals and 10 assists in 38 games across all competitions.
He has scored four times and weighed in with eight assists in 27 league games, playing a crucial role in Monaco’s pursuit of Champions League football.
He has also created an astonishing 14 big chances in Ligue 1 this season, averaging 1.6 key passes per 90 minutes.
Akliouche’s outstanding breakthrough campaign hasn’t gone under the radar. He’s set to be Monaco’s latest golden goose.
The French outfit are famous for developing and selling young talents to the highest bidders, and Akliouche is poised to continue that trend.
With the Frenchman’s stock rising, Monaco are reportedly open to a summer sale and have set an asking price between £60-68.5 million.
If Akliouche maintains his current trajectory until the end of the season, you won’t put it past Monaco to increase their valuation.
Akliouche would fit into Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system at United as one of the double number 10s.
After missing out on Geovany Quenda to Chelsea, United cannot afford to miss out on the chance to sign one of France’s brightest talents.
