United must move for Delap before U21 Euros increases his transfer value

Manchester United will seek to sign a new striker in the summer to bolster their attacking options.

Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee cannot be relied upon for goals, and either of them could be moved on in the summer.

United have been linked with several strikers, including Ipswich’s Liam Delap, who has shone in the Premier League this term.

The Manchester City youth academy graduate has 12 league goals and has caught the attention of the Red Devils and other top-flight teams.

United appear to be one of the front-runners for his signature. Technical director Jason Wilcox is a ‘fan’ of the Ipswich striker.

However, if he excels in the European U21 championships in the summer, there could be more competition for him. He could also demand bigger wages with a successful outing with England.

United must move swiftly to secure his signature now before participating in the competition.

With a £30 million valuation, the club would find it difficult to find another quality striker, making it risky for them to miss out on his signature.

Victor Osimhen, Benjamin Sesko, Viktor Gyokeres, and Hugo Ekitike are the other quality strikers who would be in the market, but their valuations could be excessive for the Red Devils.

In his debut season in the English top flight, Delap has shown he could become world-class in the right environment.

Besides his clinical finishing, he has good hold-up play, boasts of an incredible pace, and can take on opposition defences, having completed 53.6 per cent of his dribbles in the league this season.

Another impressive trait of his is aerial prowess, which could help United score more goals from set-pieces and defend them better.

United must convince him that if he joins them, he will become the club’s first-choice striker and have the opportunity to compete for titles.

They must do so before the European U21 championships to stand a better chance of signing him.
