Tottenham’s player ratings vs Frankfurt

Guglielmo Vicario: A solid second-half display from Vicario, as the Spurs’ number one made a couple of vital saves to keep Tottenham in the lead when he was called into action in the second forty-five – much better when compared to Sunday. 9.

Pedro Porro: Frankfurt were expected to come out and pile the pressure on Tottenham, but their chances were few and far between. Porro, for his own, stood his ground defensively and took advantage of the gaps in the Frankfurt defence when Spurs looked to counter. He also had a couple of good deliveries from corners as well. 8.

Cristian Romero: A captain’s performance from the Argentine, who was very solid at the back and showed why he is a World Cup winner. He could have put Spurs in front, but narrowly missed from a Porro corner kick. 9.

Micky van de Ven: Van de Ven’s best moment in the game came in the first half were he prevented Etikike from going through on goal. In the second forty-five, he was just as solid. 8.5.

Destiny Udogie: Udogie impressed once more for Tottenham. There were a few nervy moments in the second half when Frankfurt attacked from his flank, but the Lilywhites did manage to see it through. 8.

Lucas Bergvall: Bergvall held his own in that midfield. He put in a few blocks on the edge of the box, which prevented Frankfurt from troubling Vicario. 8.

Rodrigo Bentancur: Bentancur carried on from where he left off in the first half, carrying out his midfield duties with a lot of composure and guile. 8.5.

James Maddison: Maddison took one for the team in the first half by winning a penalty at his own expense. The boys did pull through for the midfielder who had to be subbed off. 8.

Brennan Johnson: It was not a second half for the front men, as Spurs needed to do loads of defending. Every player put in a good shift, and Johnson gave his best before he was subbed off for Danso. 7.5.

Dominic Solanke: Finally ended his goal drought, and one can only imagine the pressure he was under. But he stepped up and slotted the penalty in style. However, chances were few and far between in the second half, which meant the Englishman couldn’t add to his tally. 8.5.

Mathys Tel: Another solid display from the Frenchman, who is growing into his Spurs shirt. He could hold his head high after his performance today. 8.

Substitutes:

Dejan Kulusevski: Came on for Maddison in the first half and put in a proper Kulusevski performance, where he ran and continued to be an outlet for Spurs when they looked to take off pressure from the defence. 7.

Pape Matar Sarr: Sarr came on for Mathys Tel in a period where Tottenham were looking to see off the game. He did just what was expected. 7.

Kevin Danso: Danso had a brief cameo after only just returning to training yesterday. The centre-back came on for Johnson, as Spurs ended the match with a back five. 7.
