James Maddison injury update after goalkeeper clash in Tottenham’s Europa League win

0 11

Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou has now provided an injury update on James Maddison, after a serious knock saw the Englishman come off before half-time.

Tottenham Hotspur did what was expected of them on Thursday night when they travelled to Germany to take on Eintracht Frankfurt in the quarter-final of their Europa League second leg tie.

The expectation for Tottenham was rather simple, as a win was all that was needed from the Lilywhites if they were to make it to the last four of the Europa League.

It was never going to be an easy task to accomplish, as Eintracht Frankfurt’s home form in the Europa League has been nothing short of perfect – unbeaten at home, but Spurs managed to put a dent in that record and secured a 1-0 victory.

James Maddison injury update after Frankfurt vs Tottenham

It was Dominic Solanke who slotted in from the spot, calmly sending the keeper the wrong way and putting it down the middle.

However, that penalty came at a cost, as James Maddison took a rather heavy knock to the hip after Eintracht Frankfurt’s goalkeeper came charging out to collect the ball from a Tottenham cross, but ended up conceding the foul instead.

Ange Postecoglou has now provided an update on Maddison’s condition. The Tottenham boss stated that the Englishman is fine, praising his bravery and courage to go for the ball even when it was clearly going to come at a cost.

He told football.london: “He is fine. Unbelievable courage in that moment to put his body on the line knowing full well that he was going to get a pretty severe knock and I was surprised it wasn’t a red card. Super courageous from him. He is sore but I’m sure that has all been numbed knowing that he has helped us progress to the semi.”

It’s encouraging to hear that Maddison is well after such a serious collision. The attacking midfielder took one for the team and the boys made sure it counted on the night by getting over the line.

Ange Postecoglou deserves praise after Spurs progress to Europa League semi-final

It was a coming-of-age performance from Tottenham Hotspur, who did all they could to see the game out.

Ange Postecoglou, who has come under fire in recent weeks and months for not adapting or changing his methods in games, needs to earn his plaudits, as he made sure his team did the dirty work that is expected if they are to go all the way in the Europa League.

With a place in the semi-final now guaranteed for Tottenham, the Spurs faithful can only start to dream, as Bilbao now looks closer than ever for the Lilywhites
