NFL Scout Shares Telling Feedback On Potential Patriots Draft Pick
As we inch closer to Day 1 of the 2025 NFL Draft, the Patriots’ shortlist of realistic first-round picks seemingly becomes clearer and clearer.
While it was fun for New England fans to imagine Travis Hunter or Abdul Carter joining Mike Vrabel’s group, both elite prospects likely will be off the board when the Patriots go on the clock. New England also probably would be hard-pressed to find a worthwhile deal to trade back, as this class isn’t exactly littered with can’t-miss prospects.
As such, the Patriots appear likely to stay at fourth overall and find support for Drake Maye. Will Campbell is the name that’s been mentioned more than any other prospect attached to New England, and he was the Patriots’ choice in a new ESPN mock draft put together by NFL scouts.
More Patriots
“He’s a high-floor prospect,” an anonymous scout told Matt Miller. “I trust his feet and hand use to succeed at tackle, but if the length ever becomes that problematic, we think he’s got All-Pro potential as a guard.”
That feedback can be received in two vastly different ways. “High floor” is an encouraging label for any first-round talent, as you seemingly limit risk on a premier asset. It also never hurts to have All-Pro players on your football team, regardless of position.
However, some NFL decision-makers might not love the early chatter about Campbell potentially changing positions. The LSU product almost certainly will be given the opportunity to play tackle by whatever team drafts him, but sustainability remains a major question mark. The Patriots, in turn, will need to decide if it’s worth it to use one of the top picks in the draft on a player who ultimately won’t play a premium position.
Time is running out for Vrabel, Eliot Wolf and others to make that determination, though. The draft kicks off next Thursday in Green Bay.
