Tottenham star appears on prosecutors’ list but there is nothing to worry about
A Tottenham defender’s name has cropped up in a list of players who have loaned money to one Serie A star, who is currently under investigation for his involvement with an illegal gambling ring.
Radu Dragusin is currently working his way back from an ACL injury, with the centre-back not expected to be back in action until next season.
However, the Romanian has now found out his name cropped up in relation to a scandal in Italy, with some players being investigated for illegal online betting.
Although Dragusin is not among the players being investigated, according to a report, the Tottenham man loaned money to a former teammate to help him pay off his gambling debts.
What is the case and why is Radu Dragusin involved?
This report comes from Il Messaggero who explain that following an initial investigation, prosecutors in Italy are looking to recoup €1.5m and punish the ringleaders of an illegal gambling ring they uncovered.
During this investigation, many documents have come to light, including a long list of footballers associated with the gambling ring. Among those involved are the likes of Nicolo Fagioli and Sandro Tonali, who received a ban for their involvement.
Dragusin’s name is not part of the list of footballers being investigated for illegal gambling, but he is part of a list of players who have lent money to those being investigated.
It is revealed that the Tottenham Hotspur man, alongside the likes of goalkeeper Stefano Turati and defender Federico Gatti, lent €40,000, to Fagioli, but the trio are not under investigation for their involvement.
What Dragusin’s agent has said about potential Tottenham transfer
The former Genoa man will be currently focused on his rehabilitation as he pushes to try and get ready for the start of next season.
However, Dragusin’s outspoken agent has admitted that the defender misses Italy, while also confirming that Napoli were interested in his client in the past.
Some reports have suggested that Tottenham and AC Milan could complete a swap deal for Dragusin and Fikayo Tomori this summer.
