Tottenham would have to pay £17m just to hire Premier League manager

0 5

A fresh report has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur may be able to lure a manager away from their London rivals, but the North London club would have to spend a sizable fee in order to do that.

Reports over recent months have named Andoni Iraola, Marco Silva and Thomas Frank as the top candidates to replace Ange Postecoglou at Spurs this summer.

However, an increasing number of outlets have stated over recent weeks that Tottenham also have their eye on Oliver Glasner.

A German publication suggested last week that Spurs may be favourites to beat RB Leipzig to Glasner’s signature, and the Lilywhites have now learned how much they would have to pay to appoint the Austrian coach.

Tottenham have to spend a sizable fee to appoint Oliver Glasner

A report in BILD reveals that the Palace boss does not have a release clause in his contract, which means that Tottenham will have to hammer out a deal with the Eagles if they wish to poach their head coach.

It is revealed that the South London club even rejected €18m (£15m) from Bayern Munich for Glasner last summer before the Bavarians opted to hire Vincent Kompany instead last year.

However, the 50-year-old manager has just one year left on his contract at Selhurst Palace. As a result, it is explained that Spurs would have to stump up around €20m (£17m) to bring him to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

However, Glasner’s salary is not an issue for the Lilywhites as he currently earns just €5m (£4.3m) per year at Palace, which is less than what Ange Postecoglou is paid by Spurs.

Crystal Palace keen to tie down Glasner to a new contract

However, this report from BILD was contradicted by a report from Football Insider a few days ago, which played down the chances of the Australian coach leaving Selhurst Park.

The publication revealed that Palace are set to offer Glasner a new long-term contract as they are desperate to keep their head coach at the club.

The update further added that the former Eintracht Frankfurt boss is happy at the London club but is currently focused on ending the season strongly rather than on his future.
