Noel Hunt Pleased With Reading’s ‘Positive Point’ At Northampton Town
The Royals made it three unbeaten on the bounce with a 0-0 at Sixfields on Saturday.
The Royals picked up a ‘positive point’ against Northampton Town at Sixfields Stadium after a 0-0 draw.
Reading didn’t find their normal gear on the day. Joel Pereira made some good saves to keep us in the game. Chances came for Reading but it wasn’t to be our day in front of goal. Ex-Royal Nesta Guinness-Walker was sent off for the Cobblers in the second half.
The point keeps us in sixth with a three-point gap between us and seventh-placed Bolton Wanderers. Manager Noel Hunt was pleased to pick up a point. Here is what he had to say, he spoke to the Reading Chronicle.
Hunt on the performance
“It was a positive point. Watching Kevin [Nolan]’s team’s games in the last few weeks, they’re at it and fighting for their lives. It was about finding the moment of quality in the final third - I thought we had it when Charlie popped up after a good passage of play.
“We will take it. It’s away from home, a seven-point week out of nine and it’s the last game in a period of five in two weeks.
“In terms of the fundamentals and basics, we did well. It’s a clean sheet for Joel on his 50th appearance, which is special, so we take the point and move on.”
Hunt on the pitch
“It was dry and bobbly; it wouldn’t quite sit for us - but that’s for us to deal with. We would like to have [moved the ball] more throughout the game a bit quicker. The message at half-time was being cleaner and more efficient with our passing.
“We can’t play how we want to play all the time and it’s important we have the other side and are defensively sound. We did that today, apart from a couple of long throws and free-kicks.”
