Ange Postecoglou reveals why he is confident ahead of Tottenham’s visit to Frankfurt

0 8

Ange Postecoglou has made a bold statement about what Tottenham need to do in the second leg after witnessing his side dominate Eintracht Frankfurt at home on Thursday but being unable to find a match-winner.

Tottenham Hotspur arguably delivered what was their best performance in a few months in the first leg against Frankfurt and will consider themselves unlucky not to come away with a win from the encounter.

After Pedro Porro cancelled out Hugo Ekitike’s early strike, it was mostly one-way traffic, with Spurs fashioning a number of good chances in the second period.

Lucas Bergvall and Rodrigo Bentancur were both denied by the woodwork, which means that Frankfurt will be the much happier of the two sides, especially given their impressive home record in the Europa League.

Ange Postecoglou bullish about Tottenham’s chances

Frankfurt currently sit third in the Bundesliga table, thanks mainly to their strong record at home and the Premier League side thus know that they have their work cut out in Deutsche Bank Park next week.

Tottenham have been poor away from home this season, but Ange Postecoglou is adamant that his side will progress to the final four if they can replicate their first-leg performance in Germany.

When asked if his side can attack with the same freedom in the second leg, the Spurs boss told Football.London: “If we can repeat that next week, and there’s no reason we can’t, we’ll give ourselves a good chance. I really felt like we overwhelmed them with our football, with our running and with our press.

“It wasn’t just the chances we created but the chances we almost created. It’s going to be that sort of season. Nothing is going to come to us easy. We’re going to have to go there and fight now to get what I thought we deserved tonight and that’s what we’ll try to do.”

Spurs receive positive update on Destiny Udogie

Some Spurs fans might have been fearing the worst when they saw Destiny Udogie was forced off with some discomfort in the first leg.

However, Udogie has confirmed that it was just down to camp and fatigue, with the left-back expected to be fit for the second leg.

Tottenham may also be boosted by the return of Dejan Kulusevski, who has been out of action since the start of February.
