Exclusive: Injury expert makes worrying prediction about Micky Van de Ven's hamstrings
Tottenham Hotspur have endured one of the worst injury crises in recent memory this season, and injury expert Dr. Rajpal Brar has now made a worrying prediction about Micky Van de Ven.
Spurs have missed key players at key moments throughout the season, but one thing has become clear – the Ange Postecoglou system relies on Micky Van de Ven above all others.
Holding such a high line with clean sheet consistency is tough at the best of times, but without the blistering recovery speed of the Dutchman, it seems impossible for the Lilywhites.
Micky Van de Ven once again topped the Premier League speed charts this season, and Spurs seem to be looking after their centre-back more cautiously since his return to fitness.
Spurs physios were seen giving Van de Ven’s hamstring special attention on the touchline when he finally took to the pitch following multiple long-term injury problems.
However, an injury expert has now revealed that recurring hamstring injuries are two times more likely in the subsequent year following a return.
Tottenham need to be careful with Micky Van de Ven
While Spurs will be over the moon to have Van de Ven fit and available for the Europa League quarter-final against Eintracht Frankfurt, they also need to be careful about pushing the centre-back too hard.
Dr. Rajpal Brar – a doctor of physical therapy – exclusively told the Spurs Web: “Recurring injuries are always a concern as the greatest risk of future injury is previous injury.
“With hamstring injuries, research shows that reinjury risk is increased by over 2x for the subsequent year, might be even more so for recurrent problems like Micky Van de Ven has suffered and then you add in his sprint speeds, amount of sprints and that’s even more risk.
“There’s some thought that you might be able to go in and remove scar tissue via surgery to help improve function and reduce reinjury but that’s up for debate.”

Spurs may need to find a new partner for Micky this summer
Rumours are circulating that Atletico Madrid want to sign Cristian Romero from Tottenham this summer. To make matters worse, Romero himself is said to be looking for consistent Champions League football.
Fabrizio Romano believes Daniel Levy could hold the cards when it comes to Romero’s Spurs future, but 2025 does increasingly feel like a summer of change for the North London club.
In the past few weeks, Tottenham have been linked with Marc Guehi, Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite, Bayer Leverkusen’s Piero Hincapie and Jonathan Tah, and even Genoa’s Koni de Winter.
Whoever the Lilywhites decide to go for, they need to choose a centre-back who will complement Van de Ven’s style and perhaps remove some of the running burden from the Dutchman. Of course, Spurs also need to avoid signing yet another injury-prone star.
