Man United U18s hammer Leeds United to break league record

0 3

Manchester United U18s responded emphatically to their FA Youth Cup heartache, thrashing Leeds United 13-1 in the U18 Premier League North fixture at the Carrington Training Centre this afternoon.

Coach Adam Lawrence reinstated goalkeeper Cameron Byrne-Hughes into the starting line-up, while centre-back Jayden Ngwashi was handed just his second start.

United opened the scoring just two minutes into the game. Amir Ibragimov was brought down in the penalty area; Victor Musa stepped up to play the spot-kick, which was saved but he converted the rebound.

Musa doubled the lead in the eighth minute, brilliantly striking the ball home after receiving a pass from Ngwashi.

The 18-year-old striker completed his first hat-trick six minutes later with a tap-in after winger Samuel Lusale’s effort was saved.

He continued his scoring spree in the 17th minute, curling the ball into the far corner from the edge of the area before netting again before the half-hour mark.

Midfielder Jim Thwaites added to Leeds’ misery with a brilliant free-kick. The English midfielder then grabbed his second of the game, courtesy of an assist from Ibragimov.

Four minutes before halftime, Thwaites completed his hat-trick with a stunning finish into the top right corner, again assisted by Ibragimov.

Musa struck once more before the break, further cementing United’s dominance and setting them on the path to a historic win.

Lawrence’s side reached double figures six minutes after the restart with a brilliant left-footed strike from midfielder James Bailey.

Leeds managed to pull one back through Kenneth Mensah, but centre-back Dan Armer quickly restored United’s 10-goal cushion.

A minute before stoppage time, debutant JJ Gabriel got on the scoresheet with a precise finish, then added another during added time.

United’s demolition of Leeds broke the league’s biggest home win this season, which was also set by them. They also hold the record for the biggest away win this term.

Despite the victory, they remain five points behind leaders Manchester City, although they have a game in hand.
