'We hope': Amorim says he is 'waiting' for £34m Man United star to return from injury

0 7

Manchester United have struggled to find their attacking rhythm this season, hampered by a lack of both depth and quality up front.

Only two players, Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo, have truly lived up to expectations in an otherwise poor forward line.

Diallo’s promising run, however, came to a halt in February when he suffered a cruel injury during training.

At the time, head coach Ruben Amorim feared the setback could sideline the young winger for the remainder of the campaign.

Amorim has now suggested that United’s number 16 could return before the end of this term.

He said (via ManUtd.com): “He’s doing quite well.

“We hope to have him before the season is finished. We’ll see, but he’s anxious to play, so we are waiting for him.”

Diallo was flourishing under Amorim’s 3-4-3 system, showcasing his tenacity and sharp instincts in the final third.

The Ivorian starlet has contributed nine goals and eight assists in 36 appearances across all competitions this season.

In January, United sent Marcus Rashford and Antony out on loan, paving the way for Diallo to take centre stage.

Many believed that the £34 million-rated ace would become United’s talisman, but injury forced him to spend time on the sidelines.

The Red Devils have endured a forgettable campaign.

They currently sit 13th in the Premier League table, and are locked in a fierce battle just to finish in the top half.

Knocked out of both domestic cups, United’s last hope of redemption lies in the UEFA Europa League.

Lifting the Europa League trophy would not only secure a Champions League berth but also inject a much-needed financial boost.

Diallo’s potential return could prove to be the X-factor United need to salvage something meaningful from an otherwise forgettable season, provided they remain in the Europa League until he returns.
