Cristian Romero slammed for letting Tottenham down during international break

0 12

Graham Roberts has said that he is very disappointed in what Cristian Romero did over the past few weeks, accusing the Tottenham man of not showing as much commitment to the club as he does for his national side.

The centre-back’s recovery has been very carefully managed over the past few months as Ange Postecoglou has been keen to ensure that he, and his defensive partner, Micky van de Ven, do not suffer any additional setbacks.

It appeared as if Argentina failed to follow Romero’s fitness plan, with the centre-back playing 90 minutes in both of the nation’s recent World Cup qualifiers against Uruguay and Brazil.

However, Ange Postecoglou was delighted that Cristian Romero got some minutes in his legs, insisting that it can only be good news for Tottenham.

Graham Roberts slams Cristian Romero for lack of commitment to Tottenham

However, Roberts believes that the Tottenham vice-captain should not have played all 90 minutes in both games for Argentina, thus putting himself at risk of further injury.

He accused Cristian Romero of not being as committed to Tottenham as he is to his national side, pointing out that the defender only played an hour against Fulham before jetting off for the international break.

The 65-year-old told Mr Vegas Casino about Romero: “I just can’t get that we played him 60 minutes and then he goes and plays two sets of 90 minutes. I just can’t understand that.  I’m not happy because the club have looked after him and Ange (Postecoglou) has looked after him.

“If you’re fit and you start the game, then play the whole game (against Fulham). I know we’ve been taking care of Micky van de Ven as well, but he didn’t go away (on international duty). He was on the bench against Fulham, he didn’t play.

“I’m disappointed in him. If he had gone away and played 60 minutes in each game, that’s different. But to play 90 minutes… The club pays his wages and looks after him. It was a big disappointment.”

Romero does not feel he owes Spurs anything

With these comments, Roberts seems to be assuming that the centre-back is thankful to the Tottenham medical and coaching staff for helping him through his rehabilitation and managing his minutes.

If anything, it is just the opposite as Cristian Romero seemingly took a swipe at the Tottenham medical team, which suggests that he is not happy with the way his recovery for managed.

In fact, some sources claim that Romero was deeply upset with the Spurs doctors after what went on over the last few months.
