An update from Spain has revealed what the feeling at Real Betis is at the moment regarding a potential move from Tottenham Hotspur for Johnny Cardoso and about the prospect of losing the midfielder to the Premier League side.

Tottenham’s £21m option to buy Johnny Cardoso becomes active this summer and given the kind of form that the midfielder has been in of late, the decision to activate it seems like a no-brainer for the Lilywhites.

It has been widely reported that Spurs have been very impressed with Cardoso’s progress this season and are ‘confident’ that he will be worth the investment.

A new report has now shed light on what the feeling is at Estadio Benito Villamarin regarding Tottenham’s clause and the possibility of losing the USA international.

According to AS, while Betis are over the moon with Cardoso’s development into one of the best midfielders in La Liga, they are also aiming to cash in on the player this summer.

The Spanish club know that the 23-year-old’s future lies away from Seville, particularly given the option Tottenham acquired for the player last summer.

In fact, it is revealed that Betis would welcome a move from Spurs for Cardoso as they would be making a significant profit on the player, who they signed for just €6m (£5m).

Given the club’s financial position, their coffers are said to be ‘crying out’ for a revenue boost and Manuel Pellegrini has already been warned about losing the American this summer.

Some sources have even claimed that Spurs have already spoken with Gomes about a summer move, with Ange Postecoglou’s men said to be eager to beat other Premier League clubs to the player’s signature.
