Vote For Your March 2025 Reading Player Of The Month
We have four players for you to pick from this month.
Reading’s playoff push has been pushing steadily on in recent weeks, with the Royals enjoying a surprisingly strong March. Of the six League One fixtures played, Reading managed three draws (one of them away from home!) and three draws, scoring nine and and only conceding four.
Performances overall were pretty strong, but those half-dozen games did include a mixed bag of Reading showings. While we saw the highs of comfortable wins against Wrexham and Peterborough United, we also had the lows of frustrating draws against Exeter City and Crawley Town.
So, you’ve guessed it, we’re now after your player of the month for March 2025.
First though a bit of housekeeping. Congratulations to a first-time winner of this award - not just the first time this season, but in his Reading career overall too! That’s none other than Michael Craig, whose 45% of the vote was enough to see him beat out competition from Joel Pereira (29%) and Harvey Knibbs (27%).
Back to March’s vote, and we have four candidates for you to choose from...
Tyler Bindon
Average rating: 6.80 / Man of the match awards: 1st (Wigan Athletic A), 1st (Exeter City H), 2nd (Crawley Town A), 2nd (Wrexham H), 3rd (Stevenage H)
It’s a rare player of the month award when Bindon isn’t on the shortlist. There are only so many ways you can reword how composed, solid and authoritative Bindon is, being an absolutely vital part of the Royals’ defence and build-up play. He also found the net once in March, crucially, popping up late on at Wigan Athletic to net a late winner.
As a mark of his consistency, Bindon was involved in all but one of our man of the match top threes in March. Not bad at all!
Harvey Knibbs
Average rating: 6.00 / Man of the match awards: 3rd (Wrexham H)
Perhaps not an obvious standout in the same way as others on this list, but Knibbs was still a vital source of goals for Reading in March. Given the Royals’ general tendency to not score all that frequently, that shouldn’t be underestimated.
Knibbs set up Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan for Reading’s opener at Crawley Town, as well as getting an assist for Lewis Wing against Wrexham. (Admittedly that goal owed more to the overall move and Wing’s finish, but an assist is an assist.) As for his own goals, Knibbs had the composure once again to net a penalty at a crucial time, putting Reading 1-0 up in that Wrexham match, while also popping up to double the Royals’ lead against Peterborough.
Joel Pereira
Average rating: 6.33 / Man of the match awards: 2nd (Stevenage H)
Another strong month between the posts for Pereira, who was rewarded with two clean sheets. He only shipped one goal in each of the other four games, giving the Royals the platform to get at least a point, due to his shot-stopping and command of the area.
Charlie Savage
Average rating: 6.83 / Man of the match awards: 2nd (Wigan Athletic A), 2nd (Exeter City H), 1st (Wrexham H), 1st (Stevenage H), 1st (Peterborough United)
Last but not least Charlie Savage, who I suspect is the favourite to win this vote. Savage enjoyed his strongest month of the season, having gone from strength to strength under Noel Hunt but really kicking on in recent weeks.
His average rating was higher than anyone else’s - a touch above Bindon’s - and he managed a whopping three MOTM wins out of six available. Savage finished as runner-up on two other occasions. He also got in among the goals, creating and scoring the first and last goals of the month respectively (with Jayden Wareham the other man involved each time).
